The Program by Suzanne Young is the first in this dystopian duology. The story follows a young girl named Sloane who lives in a world where teenage suicide is an epidemic that affects every 1/3 teens. The cure to this epidemic is the Program. All Sloane knows about the Program is that teens get taken there against their will when they become infected with depression; and when they return, they remember practically nothing from their life before. Sloane and her boyfriend, James, are desperate to stay out of the Program, but since Sloane's brother, who was also James' best friend, committed suicide, both Sloane and James are being watched for any signs of infection, because in this not-so-distant future, suicide is contagious. I gave this book 4/5 because I really enjoyed the story and the originality of it. The book is very sad, though, but I am really excited to read the sequel, which comes out April 29th.
